Glucosamine sulphate – an essential component of the cartilage matrix. The body builds its joint cartilage mainly from glucosamine and chondroitin.

Chondroitin sulphate – also an essential component of the cartilage matrix. The chondroitin structure in the cartilage stores water and thus forms the natural shock absorber in the joints. Chondroitin is ideally taken together with glucosamine.

Pine bark extract – the extract has high antioxidant potential and can therefore help to reduce oxidative stress.

MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) is organic sulphur. Sulphur is necessary for joint formation. MSM has been intensively studied in relation to its function for the joints.

SAMe (chemical name: S-adenosylmethionine) is a metabolite of the amino acid L-methionine. SAMe is particularly rich in sulphur, making it important for the joints and an ideal partner for MSM.

Hyaluronic acid – commonly referred to as ‘joint lubricant’ – is a component of healthy joint fluid.

Vitamin D and vitamin K are the two vitamins that are essential for bone formation. Vitamin D is only produced in the skin when exposed to intense sunlight, but is hardly found in food. Therefore, depending on age and season, between 60% and 90% of the population has too low vitamin D levels and thus impaired calcium metabolism and an increased risk of osteoporosis. Vitamin E is an important fat-soluble antioxidant. It protects cells from oxidative stress (‘free radicals’).

Zinc also plays a role in the immune system and is necessary for collagen formation.

Selenium, manganese and copper are other trace elements. They offer protection against free radicals, which attack joint cartilage (selenium, for example), and are building blocks in the cartilage formation process.
